Robin Gibb woke from coma to sound of his music

The 62-year-old star of the disco era, who has been battling cancer and pneumonia and slipped into a coma earlier this month, had been given less than a 10 percent chance of surviving, Robin-John told ITV News in an interview.

New Orleans music scene booming as festival season gets under way, Jazz Fest set to start

NEW ORLEANS — When Hurricane Katrina scattered New Orleans residents and its musicians across the country, many wondered if the best days of New Orleans music had drowned with the city. But if its music festivals are any indication, New Orleans is proving its music scene is waterproof.

New Orleans festivals are as strong as they’ve ever been, and at least one is bigger than before Katrina hit in 2005. French Quarter Festival, which took place in mid-April, started…

Music Won't Save Me

For so long I've relied on music to save me. In the little world I call my mind, where anything is what I believe it to be. Now, music is just a noise that occupies space. I feel nothing more than numb towards it or anything else. I miss those times where I could just drift away on each and every note.

Frankly, I've lost the will to sing, play, perform or even observe music. It just has no power in my life anymore - and that depresses me.

Experimental music for palliative care

As Lele Barkhausen held her father's hand under his bed covers, a harpist sat at the foot of his bed strumming soft music into the hospital room.

Tears formed in Barkhausen's eyes. Her father, retired physician Harry Miller, 86, has terminal cancer and spent a recent weekend at an in-patient facility in Skokie. His family called on a…
