Simon Cowell Leaving American Idol - How Much Will It Hurt The Show?

The judge we all love to hate says he will be leaving the show at the end of the 2010 season to focus on bringing the his British show "The X Factor" to the states.

The news of Cowell's departure comes just as the new season of AI is about to beggin on FOX. This season will be the last with Cowell as a host and the first with out popular sentimental original show judge Paula Abdul who chose not to return after her eighth season on the show leaving Randy Jackson as the only original judge to be left on the show after the 2010 season

Simon's departure is a big loss to the show. I don't know if the show can really survive the departure of Americas favorite critic.

What do you think is his departure a good fresh start for the show or does it spell doom?
Who out there is a good candidate for his replacement?

Mr Cowell! Well firstly I have to say I am in love with Mr Simon Cowell. Haha Their is definatley something cheeky in his smile and a warm glow in his eyes. He is smart and knows his stuff and his honesty and personality and ability to spot talent early on is what got him where he is today. He is very close to his mum and I love that. I have always wanted to meet him but the chances are pretty low so of that subject then haha
I feel it will be a fresh start for the show and to give some other people opportunity to join the panel. I think although it will be different to see the old judges leave, Simon is working on other projects and trying to bring X factor stateside so he is still thinking of his American audiences and talent. Simon is of course as mentioned above a brilliant critic and enjoyable to watch and sometimes we just love to hear what the big man thinks! (really I think he'd be friendly and polite haha) but we all love his cheeky side and it always makes great entertainment. I think the show is so popular that it won't spell 'doom and gloom', it could see people very interested to see who joins Randy Jackson and see the new fresh series.
I cannot however say who would be a good replacement because I have to say I think Simon is an amazing critic and knows his stuff, you can't fool him and he also proves to be a great mentor in our British shows here. I am sure however that whoever does replace him will attract a lot of attention and lets just hope they are as cheeky and smart as Simon and oh yes, have a fantastic smile!! Simon's certainally got it!! haha (Cat Ross)
I think this is a bad idea for the show.
He really knows music, and personally...I think hes the best judge there because he actually tells people the truth...and knows EXACTLY what hes talking about.

Like, Paula wasn't the smartest...so it really didn't matter that she left, but then they replaced her with Ellen...ELLEN! Who knows NOTHING about music, and now, the whole show will basically be a joke.

Who are they gonna replace Simon with? Jim Carey?
Like seriously...these people know nothing.
This show is going downhill...fast.
Simon's opinion is the only one I truly value. Why bother singing for anyone else.
I think Simon's departure will hurt American Idol. He was the best judge ever.
Barry Manilow really worked well with the contestants and he might be a good judge, but I think his demeaner might be too much of a contrast to Simon's.
